The interior of Soho's finest, Ronnie Scott's jazz club, may be best known for the distinctive red-shaded lights and booth seating of its main club, but it isn't the only performance space within the Frith Street venue.
For music fans looking to experience the club's atmosphere but not sure enough to shell out for the main show, the upstairs bar at the venue is worth a try. With live music every night of the week and an eclectic array of artists and bands, from funk and Cuban to jive and poetry nights, Ronnie's Bar caters to tastes that run beyond jazz.
Tickets don't move north of a tenner and the bar is open from early evening until the early hours, while the size of the space gives it a 'Speakeasy' vibe.
The line-up this weekend gives a flavour of the type of music Ronnie's Bar is promoting. Latin night 'Viva la Revolucion' warms up Friday night, followed by a funk evening from Jazz FM on Saturday.
Sunday's event demonstrates how the upstairs programming differs from the main club. 'Classical Kicks!', promoted by violinist Lizzie Ball, has been running throughout 2012. The classical club night features the club's in-house pianist James Pearson alongside a range of classical artists. This week's gig includes the Navarra Quartet and fusion group Classico Latino.
