On Saturday, hundreds of women took part in the 'Slutwalk' — an annual protest, demonstrating against the defence that a woman is "asking for it" if she is raped because of what she is wearing.

The international protest started in 2011 after Constable Michael Sanguinetti, a police officer in Toronto, told a group of students that to avoid being raped "women should avoid dressing like sluts". Many of those who join the Slutwalk wear deliberately provocative clothes, carrying slogans proclaiming that women have the right to wear whatever they want without fear of being sexually assaulted.

Similar protests take place in several other countries including Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Argentina and Sweden.
