A visit to the coast is all that's needed to find out that Britain has some of the largest differences between low and high tide - only parts of Canada have a larger tidal range.

Michael Marten is a photographer who has set out to capture the dramatic change to a landscape that this sudden inrush and outpouring of water can cause. He demonstrates that a family packed beach at low tide can be transformed into raging waters that even the bravest swimmers would think twice (or thrice) before entering.

Marten has been travelling along the British coast for nearly ten years and his positioning of the low and high tide photographs next to one another highlights the dramatic change that a few hours may bring. Yet Marten always keeps familiar landmarks in shot so the viewer is left in no doubt that it's the same shoreline.

This promises to be a mesmerising exhibition and displaying it on the South Bank may inspire someone to take the same approach to the Thames - though it may not be as dramatic.

Sea Change is on at the Gallery@Oxo, Oxo Tower Wharf, Bargehouse St, SE1 9PH from 22-30 September. Admission is free.

Marten also has a book of all his images for sale.
