Preview: Open Air Cinema at London's Historic Royal Palaces (And Parks, Lidos And Gardens)

We've come a little late to The Luna Cinema party. Now we've no longer got the Olympics to keep us glued to our TVs of an evening, and the weather's perked up (touch wood, please, reader), we're feeling much more excited about the prospect of a night out under the stars. And The Luna Cinema programme seems to be just the ticket.

Showing classic films on a huge open-air screen, Luna Cinema pride themselves on travelling around some of the finest locations in the city. This summer, they're pitching up at both Kensington and Hampton Court Palace, as well as Danson House, Kew Gardens, Holland Park, Regent's Park, Battersea Park, Dulwich Park and Brockwell Lido.

And there are some fun films on the bill: When Harry Met Sally, Back To The Future, The Artist, Flash Gordon, and classic musicals like Grease, West Side Story and Moulin Rouge! We're particularly pleased with some of the more fitting scheduling: showing Shakespeare in Love at Hampton Court Palace, where Macbeth was premiered in the presence of James I in 1606; and screening The Young Victoria at Kensington Palace, the very place where Queen Victoria lived during her formative years. It all adds to the slightly magical atmosphere.

Check out thelunacinema.com for full listings of the forthcoming films in the series. Tickets cost between £12.50 and £16.50. And we apologise for letting you know about this halfway through the run: blame those pesky Olympics for distracting us.
