Dust off your sombrero and droopy moustache, then throw them in the bin along with any other trite stereotypes about Mexico, as a three-day celebration of the country comes to Rich Mix in Shoreditch.

From 17-19 August, the venue gives itself over to Mexican culture. Dozens of documentaries and films pepper the programme including the opening night world premiere of Made in Mexico (Hecho en México), a "beautiful tapestry of original conversations and songs from all over the country". There's even a generous helping of Mexican sci-fi, with such alluring titles as The Aztec Mummy vs. The Human Robot and Santo vs The Martian Invasion, in which a masked wrestler wards off an alien attack.

As well as screenings, the weekend also includes panel discussions about the Mexican film industry and three exhibitions of photography and art. Catering comes from rising Mexican chain Wahaca.

London Mex Fest is at Rich Mix, 17-19 August. Tickets are £7 for one-off screenings, or £15 for a day pass.
