Author appearances, poetry and spoken word events in London this week

Wednesday: Leanne Shapton talks to Craig Taylor about her new book Swimming Studies and what we can learn from sport, at Lutyens and Rubinstein (7pm, £5).

Iain M Banks discusses his latest Culture novel at Kings Place (7.30pm, £9.50).

Bruce Kent and Valerie Flessati introduce their London Peace Trail booklet at Housmans (7pm, £3).

There's a poetry pub quiz at the Poetry Cafe (7.30pm, £1 entry).

Veer Books launches a series of publications, each featuring four young writers, at the Southbank Centre's Poetry Library (8pm, free).

Thursday: Fleur Adcock, Daisy Behagg, Owen Gallagher and Daphne Gloag read for the launch of Ambit's latest issue at Kentish Town's Owl Bookshop (7pm, free).

Farrago hosts a night of Spanish poetry at the Poetry Cafe (7.30pm, £6 / £5).

There's tales of sport, magic and murder from Liar's League, in Greenwich for the night (7pm).

Anthony Cartwright talks about his new novel, How I Killed Margaret Thatcher, at Waterstones Islington (6pm, free).

Friday: Kat Francois hosts an Intimate(s) night of SLAM poetry at the Poetry Cafe (8pm, £5 / £3) scratch that, Kat's been in touch to say she's performing at the Camden Fringe tonight instead (9pm, £8 / £6).

Saturday: Joe Stretch launches his novel The Adult at Foyles Royal Festival Hall with a spot of ping pong (10am-4pm, free).

Young Adult authors Michelle Harrison, Zoe Marriott, L.A.Weatherly, Karen Mahoney, Laura Powell, Ruth Warburton and Thomas Taylor are at Foyles talking about their books and scares at Foyles Charing Cross Road (2pm-6pm, free).

At the Southbank Centre, Janet Suzman, Kim Cattrall and Jude Kelly talk about Cleopatra ahead of publication of Suzman's book about women in drama (2pm, £15).

David Brodie imagined the worst happening at the Olympics in his new novel; find out more at Waterstones Uxbridge (from 10.30am).
