Cyclist Dies After Collision With Olympic Bus

A cyclist died near the Olympic Park last night after being hit by a bus at the junction of Ruckholt Road and East Cross Road (roughly here).

The 28 year old man was struck by the vehicle, which was transporting journalists to the Olympic Park, at around 7.40pm. Another man, believed to be the bus driver, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and later released on bail. A London 2012 spokesman said:

"We can confirm that a cyclist tragically died as a result of a collision with a bus carrying media from the Olympic Park this evening. The police are investigating the accident and our thoughts are with the cyclist's family."

60 cyclists have died in Britain this year, ten of them in London. Last Friday, over 100 cyclists were arrested near the Olympic Park during a Critical Mass protest, a regular event to promote cycling safety.

Update: The cyclist has now been formally identified as Daniel Harris from Ilford
