Ticket Alert: Amanda Palmer, Hooded Fang, Orbital And More

Bored of trying for Olympic tickets? There are lots of lovely gigs on sale this week too. You should be able to pick up tickets to these from 9am Friday.

Amanda Palmer hit the headlines when an attempt to fund her album through crowd-funding site Kickstarter attracted pledges of $1.2m. Now she's planning a tour as Amanda Palmer and the Grand Theft Orchestra. Always an interesting live prospect, see her at Koko on 23 October. Tickets £16.50 + bf.

With their latest album clocking in at 23 minutes, you couldn't accuse Hooded Fang of overdoing it. But their jaunty, upbeat, surf-inspired indie sound makes them an infectious prospect live. See them at The Lexington on 8 November. Tickets £10 + bf.

Former Supergrass man Gaz Coombes has been far from quiet since the group split in 2010. His first solo record, Here Come the Bombs, proved he can still knock out a killer hook, but added details that demanded your attention. He plays XOYO on 24 October. Tickets £13.50 + bf.

Seattle's Band of Horses play soft, soaring, Southern rock. Mixing melancholy melodies with a sense for the dramatic, their fourth album - due later this year - may cement them in the world of big rock. See them at HMV Hammersmith Apollo on 20 November. Tickets £22.50 + bf.

Moving into 2013 (now there's a scary thought) and Alt-J have announced a date a O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire on 19 January. You might have seen these compelling and unpredictable Cambridge art-rockers this week, supporting The Temper Trap at Somerset House. If you want to see more of them, tickets for January's show are £14 + bf.

Tickets still seem to be available for Orbital's O2 Brixton Academy show on 14 December. But if you'd rather get your fix of lasers and electro-dance on a Saturday, they've added an extra date on 15 December too. Tickets £30 + bf.

Also booking this week: super-loud retro blues-rockers Jim Jones Revue, And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, plus an extra date for The Gaslight Anthem.
