Is even the BL attempting to get round the draconian Olympic brand protection rules with the name of this one? Presumably not, as Olympex 2012 is put on in association with the International Olympic Committee.

The small exhibition in the foyer of the Library brings together some 2,500 items of Olympic and Paralympic memorabilia, mostly from private collectors.

The display features postage stamps, post cards and other small items, from each Olympiad, with particular emphasis on the London 1908 and 1948 Games. A few larger curiosities are also present, such as a London 1908 swimming costume and the finishing tape broken by marathon runner Dorando Pietri before his disqualification. A selection of audio files from the Library's vast sound archive completes the exhibition.

Olympex 2012: Collecting the Olympic Games runs 25 July to 9 September at the British Library. Entrance is free. Image copyright, the IOC.
