London Book And Poetry Events: 4-10 July

Author appearances, poetry and spoken word events in London this week

Wednesday: 2005 Booker winner John Banville is at Daunt Books in Chelsea talking about his new novel Ancient Light (7pm, £5).

See Noo Saro-Wiwa, Chika Unigwe, Nuruddin Farah and the poetry of the motorway at the Southbank Centre's London Literature Festival.

Thursday: See Iain Sinclair on the folly of grand projects at Dulwich Books (£10). Should be interesting this close to the Olympic opening ceremony.

Poet Janett Plummer introduces a night of spoken word and comedy at the Queen's Head (8pm, £5).

Apples and Snakes launch their Shake the Dust weekend at the London Literature Festival, with poets Saul Williams and Kate Tempest (8pm, £12 / £10).

At the rest of the London Literature Festival, catch Nathan Penlington, Will Self, Anna Minton and a discussion on The Great Gatsby.

Zena Edwards and Richard Marsh join the Bang Said the Gun gang at the Roebuck (8pm, £5).

Sarah Day, Stephanie Gerra and Rebecca Whitney read from their debut novels at the Poetry Cafe (7.30pm, £5 / £4).

Friday: Paul Eccentric, Keith Jarrett and Anna Le tell stories at RRRant-an-ory at Richmond's Tea Box (7.30pm, £6).

Lemn Sissay, Sjon, Andy Kershaw, Monique Roffey and Richard Milward are all at the London Literature Festival.

Kat Francois hosts a night of SLAM poetry at the Poetry Cafe (8pm, £5 / £3).

Join Ruth O'Callaghan for the launch of ***** of Camden and Lumen anthology (7pm, £5 / £4).

Saturday: Young Adult authors Sally Gardner, Kate Cann and Sufiya Ahmed talk to Lucy Mangan about writing for girls, in Sydenham (7pm, £5 / £3).

24 poets and writers descend on Rich Mix in collaboration with 3:AM Magazine and Maintenant Camarade: just a few of the names are Joe Dunthorne, Iain Sinclair, Chris McCabe and Isobel Dixon (7pm, free).

Take the kids to see Andy Stanton at the London Literature Festival; also around are Rodge Glass, Nikita Lalwani, Bidisha, Luke Harding, John Banville, Hsiao-Hung Pai, Tony Harrison, Katherine Boo and James Fenton.

Sunday: At the London Literature Festival, Romesh Gunesekera, Elleke Boehmer, Sukdev Sandhu and Susheila Nasta talk about Indians at the heart of Bloomsbury; Tobias Jones takes us to Italy; Ben Borek, Daljit Nagra, Heather Phillipson and Ahren Warner perform London poetry; and Craig Taylor chats about his excellent book Londoners.

Monday: Free readings from Jonathan Lee, Francesca Segal and Kerry Hudson at The Book Stops Here on Denmark Street (7.30pm).

Antony Beevor talks about the Second World War at Daunt Books in Marylebone (7pm, £8).

Mark Haddon is the big draw at the London Literature Festival (7.45pm, £10).

Tuesday: Over at the Southbank Centre, John Pilger, Stella Duffy, Alexei Sayle, Iain Sinclair, Oscar Zarate, Rachel Seiffert, Andrea Stuart and a rare performance of Don DeLillo's The Word for Snow are the attractions at the London Literature Festival.

Head for Liars' League to see actors perform new short stories on the subject of Sweat and Tears at the Phoenix (7.30pm, £5).

Sydenham Arts Festival resident poet Gales Burns hosts Ronnie McGrath and Liz Berry plus open mic (7.30pm, £6 / £4).

Sarfraz Manzoor is all about Bruce Springsteen at Wanstead Library (7.30pm).

Niall O'Sullivan hosts the Poetry Cafe's weekly open mic night from 7.30pm (£5 / £4).

Kevin Crossley-Holland, Jim Burns and Eley Williams read at the latest Ambit event at the Betsey Trotwood (6.45pm, free).
