Preview: Charing Cross Road Festival

Charing Cross Road puts its best face on this Saturday with a day of free events around the street's bookshops, bars and cafes.

Everything centres around Foyles and Blackwell's, where you can see Simon Callow talking about Shakespeare, fantasy writers Ben Aaronovitch and Paul Cornell, Gatz's artistic director John Collins talking to Robert McCrum, Alex Preston and John Lanchester, the Icecreamists, a live event from the people behind the Soho Stories app and discover urban birdwatching.

There's also live music in the Foyles cafe (as well as a lunchtime disco), a literary pub quiz in the Phoenix bar – and try and spot all the penguins up and down Charing Cross Road to win 40 Penguin books.

The Charing Cross Road Festival is this Saturday 30 June. Events start at 11am; head to Foyles at 113-119 and Blackwell's at 100 Charing Cross Road. All events are free.
