More manageable than its sprawling biannual sister London Fashion Week, London Jewellery week opened yesterday, bringing all kinds of pretty to the capital.

Yesterday was all about shows and VIP launches; the rest of the week offers us mere mortals the chance to get involved with free lectures, fashion shows, workshops by jewellery stars like Tatty Devine, open days and exhibitions.

In a packed week, we recommend looking out for Treasure at Somerset House (from Friday to Sunday), a selling exhibition of gorgeous contemporary jewellery; Jewel East at Old Spitalfields Market (again Friday to Sunday) a showcase of emerging jewellery designers (prices range from £20 to £200) plus jewellery-making workshops; and Glittering Greenwich (Friday only), a huge jewellery market of more than 120 stalls featuring all kinds of jewellery from vintage to contemporary, plus live music, cocktails and everything you need for a fun day out.

A couple of funky pop-up shops also sound good. First, the Glitter in Greenwich Pop-Up Shop, a temporary shop featuring the work of three talented jewellers. And over in Seven Dials, new brand Aurum of London are hosting a boutique at 38 Monmouth Street until 13 June, again run by emerging jewellery designers with their eyes on being the next big thing in bling.

London Jewellery Week runs until Sunday 17 June. Visit www.jewelleryweek.com to find out more.
