Preview: East End Film Festival 2012

As one of the UK's largest, annual multi-platform film extravaganzas, the East End Film Festival presents a diverse programme of UK and world premieres, free pop-up screenings and other live events. It will be held between 1-8 July at various locations.

The 11th EEFF kicks off with a fringe  — Cine-East — at Vibe Bar at midday on Sunday 1 July, with Dexter Fletcher and cast introducing an outdoor screening of Wild Bill. This is the start of a day of free events incorporating over 1,000 (yes, one thousand) short and feature film screenings, live music acts, talks, workshops, film trails and competitions in over 100 different venues.

The festival officially opens on Tuesday 3 July with the UK premiere of a documentary about music icon Amy Winehouse in St Anne's Church, Limehouse. The screening will be accompanied by a Q&A and live music from a choir and orchestra.

The festival closes on Sunday 8 July with the UK premiere of The Last Elvis (El Ultimo Elvis), which focuses on a delusional Elvis impersonator in Buenos Aires, who sacrifices happiness with his wife and daughter in his unstoppable quest for fame.

The international highlights include such UK premieres as The Legend Of Kasper Hauser, a tale of faith, suspicion and flying saucers set to thudding techno beats, and Electrick Children, which mixes faith with youthful misadventures and an underground music scene.

EEFF will also display a variety of art-related films. Alongside the world premiere of the documentary Make Your Damn Art, Never Sorry, the story of China’s most famous international artist and other award-winning features will be shown.

For the detailed programme, please visit the festival's website. Many events are free, but ticket prices vary depending on the venue and programme. One- and three-day passes are available from £30.
