We're all travel photographers - who doesn't get snap happy when they're in a foreign country? For this very reason the travel photographer of the year competition includes images as diverse as a stunning shot of Angel Falls at sunset and an intimate portrait of three Senegalese youngsters hiding behind a bench with only their eyes visible through the slats
There are a wide range of categories to suit all types of photography and the subjects are open to interpretation - who's to judge what's considered exotic? In fact the winner of this category is Polish photographer Malgorzata Pioro who's used our very own Soho at night as her muse.
Rather than just capturing the moment, many of the photographers try to tell a story through sequential shots. The most captivating being Arne Hansen who has justly won the young photographer category for his simple yet elegant allegory of humanity's complex relationship with nature. As there are stories behind many of the entries the exhibition is both informative and aesthetically pleasing.
Those looking for pure eye candy won't be disappointed either as Thomas Endlein's rainforest island in the fog and Franco Banfi's underwater shots are beautiful enough to feel at home on anyone's coffee table.
The photographs are displayed in the idyllic settings of the Royal Geographical Society's gardens, with the Royal Albert Hall as a backdrop. A perfect way to spend a sunny afternoon, though umbrellas are available for when the weather isn't in a co-operative mood.
Travel Photographer of the Year is on display at the Royal Geographical Society, Kensington Gore until 19 August. Admission is free.
