William Hague's Dad Wants To Abseil Down The Shard

83-year old Nigel Hague has made a bit of a name for himself as a daredevil. The octogenarian has dived out of planes, scaled England's tallest mountain and flown around Yorkshire strapped to an aircraft wing.

Speaking to The Independent, Mr Hague revealed the next act of death defiance on his wishlist: abseiling down the Shard, the tallest building in Western Europe.

Unfortunately, the Shard's Qatari owners stand in the way of his ambitions, citing insurance reasons. Perhaps his son, Foreign Secretary William Hague, can intervene.

"We don't want to dash Mr Hague's lifelong abseiling dream," said a spokesman for the Shard (seemingly implying Hague predicted the Shard's construction back in the 1930s), "but we aren't Jimmy Savile". He added: "We haven't rejected the idea out of hand and no conclusion has been reached. Our main priority is getting the building finished for its inauguration."

That inauguration, by the way, takes place on 5 July, when the Duke of York will march up to the top of the hill building with the Qatari Prime Minister.
