Award-winning musical comedy duo, EastEnd Cabaret, take to the Spiegeltent on the Southbank this month with their comically perverse and musically diverse show.

Bernadette Byrne (deviant diva) and Victor Victoria (freakish multi-instrumentalist) come armed with a potent mix of hilariously risqué original songs, and instruments from the accordion to the musical saw. Fresh off a tour down under, they have shocked, aroused and entertained audiences across the globe. But where do they come from?

The pair reside in a tiny bed sit over a gin joint in East London, regularly feasting on 24 hour bagels, distilling their own sloe gin in the bath tub (leading to less frequent bathing) and disturbing the neighbours with sounds of the wheezing accordion and naughty lyrics at four in the morning. They tackle London's most taboo topics - anything from danger wanking on the tube to the perils (and pleasures) of a camel-toe, and can generally be found in the city's darkest dens of iniquity.

The debauched double act will perform in the specially-commissioned Speigeltent: the centrepiece of the Priceless London Wonderground venue, and the perfect setting for the salacious chanteuse and her half-man, half-woman musical accomplice. But how are they feeling about it?

BB: Since I was a little girl I have always wanted to perform in a Spiegeltent. All the best acts in the world play them, they have history, they have atmosphere... and they have beautiful people inside them. Also the circular shape means my audience get to see me from every angle...and Victy as well I guess. Although, on second thoughts that might not be a good thing.

VV: We’re thrilled to be a part of such a groundbreaking festival – celebrating cabaret, circus and freaks of all kinds! Already it feels as though the carnivalesque atmosphere is right at home on the Southbank (and brightening up the concrete grey a little), not to mention all the fairy floss and popcorn I plan to eat... sweet and salt and a little snifter of gin – the cornerstones of a well-balanced diet.
