This is a sponsored post and competition in partnership with DoubleTree By Hilton
Down a quiet Pimlico street, past the back of Tate Britain, a discreet hotel in a prime location has been taken on and transformed by DoubleTree By Hilton.
Being greeted with a broad smile and a warm chocolate chip cookie is certainly a mood enhancing way to begin your stay. If you’re lucky enough to have a 13th floor room, there are views across rooftops to Parliament and Westminster Abbey, with BT Tower twinkling in the distance or across the dome of Tate Britain and over to the river on the other side of the building.
This is a hotel that’s equipped for the net savvy guest. Whatever floor you’re on your room is equipped with an Apple iMac TV/PC with free WiFi and not even a password to hamper your desire to get online. Rooms are light and designed to maximise space, with White Stuff toiletries, plenty of soft towels and power showers.
The discerning drinker will find a real treat in the deep red hues of the Millbank Lounge. As well as a relaxed, smart and comfortable bar that would extend a welcome to anyone — for a beer, glass of wine or quick bite before hitting the West End — there’s a wealth of cocktail making experience ready to be tapped in the courteous bar staff and a ‘Whisky Library’ to peruse and choose from. What’s more, bar prices are eminently reasonable and service is excellent.
In fact, service is great throughout the hotel and it’s not surprising to learn that many of the personnel have been with the hotel for many years. Pride is evident wherever you encounter staff. Notably, the breakfast service in the busy City Cafe is top notch, with a menu including an impressive list of a made-to-order options.
Pimlico is a brilliant location from which to explore London — and a perfect riverside pad for the Diamond Jubilee celebrations — or to spend a night away from home in quiet urban luxury without squandering your entire salary.
