One Little Spark: A Pop-Up Exhibition For Southwark

Last year did urban youth no favours whatsoever. The student protests followed by the riots were, among other things, a PR disaster. In Southwark a group of young artists and entrepreneurs have got together and decided it’s time to rehabilitate that image.

One Little Spark is a pop-up shop and gallery in the heart of East Street Market showing and selling work inspired by the surrounding area and created by young local artists. There is clothing for sale sporting the slogan “I love Walworth” and a variety of other Southwark inspired products.

The space looks fantastic and is testament to what a group of young people can achieve in a very limited time with very limited budget. The premises belongs to the Peabody Trust and have been lent to the group by Southwark Council who are in full support of the project.

Every Sunday will be a 'meet the artist day' with the hope that local people will visit and talk about the area; what they love, what they want to change and share memories from days gone by.

This Friday you can meet the team, and the artists at the launch party between 2-4pm. The Mayor of Southwark; Loraine Lauder, will be cutting the ribbon on what will hopefully be the beginning of a transformative project.

Find One Little Spark at 57-59 East Street, SE17 2DJ from Friday 9 until Sunday 25 March.
