Last Minute Listing: Freaks, Monstrosities And Marvels Of Nature

Walthamstow, well-known to Victoria Line users and afficianados of very long street markets, is where you want to be to experience Freaks, Monstrosities & Marvels of Nature tomorrow at Ye Olde Rose and Crown on Hoe Street.

The area has never been short on creativity. It gave rise to boyband E17 in the 1990s and was the cradle of London's grime scene the decade after (does it have an accepted nickname yet?) while assorted members of Iron Maiden, Kula Shaker, the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band and Def Leppard have made their home there.

Building on that tradition, Original Army and Studio 3 Arts have put together an evening called Freaks, Monstrosities & Marvels of Nature featuring a kaleidoscope of cabaret. Alongside more traditional entertainment like burlesque (care of Jeu Jeu La Foille), there's electro-pop from Vile Electrodes, spoken word from Solid, dance and rap from Unity UK and Point.3 respectively plus DJ Jimmie Disco on the wheels of steel.

Attendees are encouraged to look their best with prizes given for the best fancy dress and vintage makeover sessions on the night available from Claire Hair and Envy Greene.

Freaks, Monstrosities & Marvels of Nature takes place at 8pm on Friday 16 March at Ye Olde Rose and Crown Theatre Pub, 53 Hoe Street E17. Tickets are £5 in advance or £7 on the door.
