Art Preview: The Gallery At Playboy

You’d be forgiven for thinking that in a place like the Playboy club there would be no shortage of things to look at. Despite the ample attractions already on offer, however, the club is today launching ‘The Gallery At Playboy’, a new exhibition space that will bring art and photography to the previously members-only environs of their Player’s Lounge.

Stocked with regularly changing works from the Watergate Gallery in Chester, the gallery will be open to non-members from 12-9pm Mondays to Saturdays and all day on Sundays. Appropriately for the venue, the first exhibition is entitled ‘Sorry You Missed the 60’s’; a selection of the era’s iconic photographs taken by celebrity photographer Phillip Townsend. Famous for his striking images of the decade’s society figures, models, musicians and politicians, particularly with the as-yet-unknown Rolling Stones, Townsend captured and shaped the mood for which the 60s are remembered. Images in the exhibition range from shots of Grace Kelly and the Beatles to Winston Churchill and Somerset Maugham, and limited-edition prints will be available to purchase.

Entry to the gallery is free and the exhibition will run from 21st March to end of April. Hop to it.
