Barbican Announces New James Bond Exhibition

You can see Daniel Craig’s sexy blue swimmers at the Barbican’s summer blockbuster exhibition, it was announced today.

Called Designing 002 – Fifty Years of Bond Style, the Barbican’s show will mark the 50th anniversary of the James Bond franchise by examining the inside story behind the design and style of the world’s most famous movie brands.

As well as those trunks, you can also see both Ursula Andress’s white bikini from Dr No, and Halle Berry’s orange number from Die Another Day.

Non-swimwear fans are catered for too: look out for displays about set and production design, cars, gadgets, special effects, graphic design and revealing info about stunts and props. There’ll also be costumes by the likes of Giorgio Armani, Roberto Cavalli, Tom Ford, Philip Treacy and Versace. The show is guest-curated by Lindy Hemming, who created some of the Bond costumes, and fashion historian Bronwyn Cosgrave. Skyfall, Daniel Craig’s next outing as Bond, will also feature in the show, which we’re promised, will “transform” the Barbican, “taking the audience on a journey”.

It seems we can’t get enough of these film-based exhibitions at the moment; it’s the second London show dedicated to the movies announced for this year. The other, called Hollywood Costume, is at the V&A from October.

Designing 007 – Fifty Years of Bond Style is at the Barbican, Silk Street, London, EC2 from 6 July to 5 September. Booking opens tomorrow. Tickets cost between £8-£12. Visit www.barbican.org.uk/bond
