Augmented Reality For London Eye

The London Eye now comes equipped with tablets so you can browse augmented reality during each ride.

The Samsung Galaxy tablets (woo! Marketing opportunity!) in each pod come equipped with information about 55 landmarks, 24 hour time-lapse photography, 360 degree night and day views from the Eye and shots 'inside' some of the famous buildings. The tech was commissioned after research showed visitors wanted to know more about what they were looking at – and trials suggest users were so impressed they were more likely to recommend the Eye to friends.

With the Shard viewing gallery opening soon it's not surprising the Eye has upped its game, but we do hope visitors don't get so engrossed in the augmented reality they forget to look at the actual reality unfurled below them.

The tablets are either available now (London Eye press release) or next month (Telegraph), and at 10p per minute we're not calling the press office to confirm which.
