On Friday night a private view of the Sense the City photo project brought shortlisted photographers and friends to London Transport Museum where their photos were projected onto the Connections board in the main gallery, ahead of discovering which three pictures had been selected for special commendation and a place in the Museum's collection.

Judges Clive Birch (Royal College of Art) and Johanna Empson (Photographers Gallery) chose three quite different shots — shown above — which are all great photos creatively encapsulating themes from the Sense and the City exhibition; of London and Londoners 'smart, connected and on the move'.

Many thanks to all the photographers who submitted images to the project, which was a joint endeavour between Londonist and London Transport Museum. Congratulations to the shortlisted group whose photos can be viewed here, and our specially commended three: Danielle Houghton, Geoff Holland and Stephen Banks.

All the shortlisted images will be on display at the Museum's Flickr wall until 18 March. Admission to London Transport Museum is £13.50/10 (ticket gives unlimited admission for 1 year) under 16s free.
