New Tours Of The Houses Of Parliament Announced

Snooping around the corridors of power is always diverting, especially when those corridors are packed cheek-by-Jowell with artistic splendour. Two new Art and Architecture in Parliament tours pick out the best of the best in our beloved seat of government.

Royalty and Splendour in the House of Lords introduces the many portraits, paintings, slumbering peers, furnishings and architectural novelties in the upper chamber. Tours last 75 minutes and will run from 5.30pm on selected Friday evenings during spring and summer. You'll finish with a glass of champers in one of the Palace's 'private rooms' (hilarious suggestions in the comments, please). All for £30.

Contemporary Portraiture in Portcullis House explores the Marmitic modern neighbour to the Houses of Parliament. The art collection within this modern-gothic fortress is truly special, with many unintentionally hilarious portraits of politicians past, present and future. These tours will run four times a day on selected Fridays during spring and summer. £15 per person or £12 for groups.

A joint ticket giving access to both tours costs £40.

With the Olympics and Jubilee bringing untold multitudes of extra sight-seers to the capital, you're advised to book now.
