Further walkouts by Aslef union members during January and February have been put on hold pending discussions with London Underground.
The first strike was held on Boxing Day, with additional action scheduled for 16th January, 3rd February and 13th February over demands for additional pay and time off in lieu. LU attempted to halt the strike in the High Court but were unsuccessful. Annie Mole rounded up some of the services that were actually running on her blog while the Aslef Shrugged blog explained the reasoning behind the strikes. General Secretary Mick Whelan said;
'This decision has been taken on the basis that meaningful talks will begin next week with LUL management over future staffing arrangements for drivers working on Boxing Days in the future.'
LU also appear cautiously optimistic - Chief Operating Officer, Howard Collins said:
'I welcome the constructive approach taken by the leadership of ASLEF at our discussions today. I look forward to further constructive talks next week, as we work to resolve this issue.'
Meanwhile, the reminder that tube fares will be rising by an average of 6% as of 2nd January doesn't exactly do much to endear union members demanding triple pay to Londoners though they may be comforted to learn that Aslef also don't agree with the fare increases.
