Investigate London's Photographic Archives

Delve and dig into the photo collections of the V&A, London Metropolitan Archives, the Wiener Library, the Royal Anthropological Institute and Magnum Photos with a new year's course from the Photographers' Gallery.

Investigating the Archives: Photographic Collections of London will mix site visits with classroom discussion and consider the histories, preservation, use and related issues involved in these fascinating collections.

The eight-week course is one module that could contribute to Birkbeck College's World Arts and Artefacts Certificate of Higher Education which in turn could lead on to undergraduate and postgraduate study in art, humanities and museum studies, should the learning bug thoroughly bite you.

If formal learning isn't for you but you're still curious, use the links above to find out more about the respective photo collections or take a look at the Met Archives on Flickr.

Enrol now with Birkbeck. The course runs from Saturday 7 January to Saturday 4 February 2012 on Wednesday evenings 18.30 - 20.00 and Saturday mornings 10.30 - 13.00. Cost: £225 (£115) / £300 (£150).

NB. The Photographers' Gallery building on Ramilies Street is due to re-open in early 2012. We're impatiently waiting for news!
