Monday: Want to improve your public speaking? Bloomsbury Speakers meet twice a month Upstairs at the Rugby Tavern, 19 Great James St, WC1N 3ES from 6.30pm (free to attend).

Tuesday: A Hankering After Ghosts: Charles Dickens and the Supernatural opens at the British Library and is open until 8pm (free).

Wednesday: You are spoilt for choice tonight: Tom Bolton talks about London's Lost Rivers at the Doodle Bar from 7.30pm (free).

The Sohemians talk transport at the Wheatsheaf with Mark Mason and Travis Elbrough at 7.30pm (£3).

Watch documentary Of Dolls and Murder at the Horse Hospital for insight into a world of miniature homicides and a look at our fascination with murder (hello CSI fans). The doco is narrated by John Waters and after, stay for a Q&A after with Dr John Troyer who features in the film, 7.30pm (£5).

Thursday: Explore east end art for First Thursday, like Punk and Beyond at Signal Gallery or try free life drawing at the Prince's Drawing School until 9pm (free).

Friday: Get festive with an evening visit to Walworth's Pullens Yard Winter Open Studios between 6-9pm and open during Saturday and Sunday too (free).

Get mulled wine and mince pies for a pound at the National Gallery shop Christmas shopping evening between 6.30-8.45pm (free entry).

The Beautiful Octopus Club put on a funky 25th birthday gig in the Clore Ballroom at the Royal Festival Hall from 7.30pm (free).

Saturday: 2,000 Santas run in Battersea Park from 10am to raise money for Disability Snowsport (free to watch). Visit the latest exhibition at the Pump House Gallery while you're there (free admission).

Barking's Molten Festival finale is a fountains and fireworks spectacular called Hydromania in Barking Town Square from 5pm (free).

Sunday: The Vintage Furniture Flea is at Bethnal Green's York Hall from 11am-4.30pm (£3 before 11.30, £2 after).

It's Tree Day at the Centre for Wildlife Gardening, Peckham with activities for the kids and top tree tips for the grown-ups + cake, between 11am-4pm (free).
