Is it possible to spend a whole four days camping out in a cinema? We're tempted with UnderWire Festival offering such a tantalisingly diverse and fascinating array of short films.
UnderWire was launched last year to showcase and celebrate the work of women, who are under-represented in the UK film industry. As well as films, there are plenty of networking opportunities, workshops, debates and panel discussions to get involved with.
Some highlights:
- RingMasters (films) Thurs 24 Nov at 7.45pm, for the suburban and the surreal.
- In the Cut (films) Thurs 24 Nov at 9.30pm, for a refreshingly modern glimpse of different cultures.
- Celluloid Sculptures (films) Fri 25 Nov at 6pm, for quirks and enchantment.
- Ladies First: Representations of women in music videos (panel discussion) Sat 26 Nov at 4pm, provocative video clips from mainstream to indie music will fuel the debate.
The festival takes place at Shortwave Cinema and Bermondsey Square Hotel, Southwark between 23-26 November. For full programme listings visit: www.underwirefestival.com. Single screenings and sessions are just £5, day pass for Saturday £10. Book your tickets online.
