Preview: The Other Art Fair @ The Bargehouse

An art fair, but not one of those stuffy ones, The Other Art Fair comprises 100 fresh, talented and unsigned contemporary artists who are showing and selling their work on their own terms, and keeping 100% of the profits by paying no gallery fees.

Alongside the exhibition, curated tours with tips on collecting and investing in art are on offer, and there’s a selection of work for under £100. If that’s a bit steep, how about under 100 pence? Original paintings and handmade objects are available at the 99p Shop.

Some of the eclectic artists on show include Kalpna Saksena, with sketch-like paintings that posses a physical depth in their subdued hues, Darren Macpherson’s strikingly bold, kitsch characters, Moose Allain’s delicately washed buildings, the very evocative photography of Istvan Prem, the politically bold, monochrome and vibrantly sliced paintings of Ben Levy, and many other exciting new talents.

Aside from all that serious stuff there’s an interactive kid’s corner to amuse the little ones, and the very lovely Robin Collective will be recreating their Café Du Pique-Nique in a full-scale secret garden. Expect astro-turf, birdsong, Pimms and hampers aplenty.

For more information see: www.theotherartfair.com. The fair runs from 24-27 November and takes place at The Bargehouse, Oxo Tower Wharf, Southbank, SE1 9QS. Tickets from £6 in advance, under 16s free.
