There's a week of completely free bookish events happening in Peckham from next Monday. This is the fifth year the Peckham Literary Festival has brought authors, poetry, spoken word and performance to SE15 and it's ace.
For us, highlights include an appearance by the brilliant author Jon McGregor, whose first novel If Nobody Speaks of Remarkable Things was nominated for the 2002 Booker, thus continuing our pet theory that the most enjoyable books never win; Steve Stack (otherwise known as publisher Scott Pack) pops by to talk about 21 Century Dodos, his book about objects that have disappeared from our lives; the Domestic Sluttery team are chatting about domestic things (and probably also gin); former vicar-turned-supermarket shelf stacker-turned-life therapist Simon Parke talks about Shelf Life, his view from the aisles that's being turned into a TV pilot; and an actual whirling dervish.
Events take place at the Review Bookshop and Persepolis, Peckham's doorway to Iran. Like we said, everything's free but do use the website booking form to tell them you're coming.
