London Gallery Hop: 19 November 2011

The King, The Island, The Train, The House, The Ship:
LA-based contemporary artist goes big with sculptures and installations at Hauser & Wirth (both the Savile Row and Piccadilly locations). Much of what he offers is of the same so called provocative nature that's been the topic of many an artist for years now (yes, we all know how prevalent pornography is and how inundated mainstream media are by marketing and advertising). Still, the scale and execution of the show impresses and is on view until 14 January at Hauser & Wirth, 196 Piccadilly, W1j 9DY and 23 Savile Row, W1S 2ET). Free.

The Art of Mapping: Curated by TAG Fine Arts, The Art of Mapping exhibits contemporary artistic maps by 22 artists such as Stanley Donwood, Grayson Perry and Susan Stockwell whose maps made out of money suggest a kind geography perhaps more dominant than other factors in our globalised world. The show runs until 28 November at Air Gallery, 32 Dover Street, W1S 4NE. Free.

The Collective Conscience: Second Floor Studios & Art is opening its doors to the public today and tomorrow (Saturday the 19th and Sunday the 20th) from 11am to 6pm with works by a community of more than 160 professional arts practitioners inviting the public to prowl about their studios and maybe even buy some art. On the banks of the Thames just a stone’s throw from the Thames barrier, SFSA is an affordable studio provision and creative space located at Mellish Industrial Estate, Harrington Way (off Warspite
Rd), Woolwich, SE18 5NR. Free.
