London Fire Brigade Live Tweets Bonfire Night

London Fire Brigade livetweeted their call-outs last night, providing a fascinating insight into their busiest night of the year. Between 4pm and midnight they received 528 calls and went out to 114 "bonfire related incidents" - not all of them out of control bonfires.

Several flats and balconies caught fire; while some of these won't have been to do with fireworks (though a fire in Holborn is thought to have been started by someone chucking a firework through a window), we can report first hand that fireworks set off in a garden reach roughly the height of a seventh-floor flat... So this particular tweet caught our eye:

"3 fire engines have been called out to reports of smoke coming from the 7th floor of a tower block on Mountbatten Ave, Romford"

There were many out-of control bonfires. Here are a few examples:

now got a bonfires out of control @ Carlton Square, Stepney and Hitchin Square, BowJust been called to an out of control bonfire on a park nr Ikea in Croydon and then lots of evidence of people just being idiots:

We've just put a fire in a postbox out on Bedford Rd, Mill Hill. Just been called to a tree alight on Elmore Street in IslingtonJust been called to a car alight on Rochester Rd, Camden. We believe it was caused by a firework underneath the car Plus loads of bins and skips set alight. A massive thanks to London's Fire Brigade for their amazing work last night, and also props to whoever was on the @londonfire account. Their fingers must have been burning. (Sorry.) We'll let them have the final, somewhat appropriate, word:

Seriously, you couldn't make this up - we've just been called to a car alight in a field on Jackass Lane, Keston
