Our pick of the tasty-sounding art, theatre, music and opera events for this week
THEATRE: Tonight, The Riots opens at the Tricycle Theatre, a swift response to this summer’s events through the words of those who were close to the action.
The Girl I Left Behind Me is a one-woman show exploring the cross-dressing traditions of musical theatre at the Barbican Pit Theatre from tomorrow. Also from tomorrow: the big, scary Gruffalo returns to the Lyric Theatre, just in time for Christmas; The Kitchen Sink at the Bush Theatre; and La Soiree at the Roundhouse.
New musical Goodbye Barcelona opens at the Arcola Theatre on Thursday, following one man’s battle against fascism in 1930s Spain. Aladdin opens at the Greenwich Theatre on Thursday (Oh no, it doesn’t, etc), as does the London transfer of Matilda The Musical, Roald Dahl’s much-loved tale about a bullied school girl, with music by Tim Minchin.
OPERA fans should look out for Opera North’s production of The Queen of Spades at the Barbican Theatre from tonight, and their performance of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Ruddigore from tomorrow. At the London Coliseum from Saturday, you can see Tosca, Puccini’s classic tragedy of torture, murder and attempted rape.
