Monday: Director of the British Museum Neil McGregor talks about Compassion and Art at St Martin-in-the-Fields at 7pm (free).

Tuesday: Ju Gosling talks about disability, medicine and museums at The Hunterian Museum, relating to the current exhibition, Abnormal: Towards a Scientific Model of Disability, 7-9pm (free).

Wednesday: Guess animal, vegetable or mineral at the Grant Museum Mystery Object Panel Game from 6.30pm, plus a free glass of wine and private view of the museum (free).

Pay tribute to the late Gil Scott Heron with a special evening of spoken work and rap at Carnival Village – The Tabernacle, W10 from 7.30pm (£3 advance, £5 on the door).

Thursday: Spacetacular at the Camden Head, NW1 features Londonist M@ + Helen Keen doing comedy, facts and fun about space – part of the London Science Festival – 8pm start, doors open 7.30pm (£5 on the door).

Friday: It's the first ever late opening of Guildhall Art Gallery for a Moonlight Madness after hours view of Atkinson Grimshaw's moonlit paintings, 6-10pm (free).

Be outside the library (no 1 on the map) at 11am for a tour of the St John's Wood art trail (free).

There's a free gallery talk at 2.30pm for Folio, an exhibition of prints from the RCA printmaking programme celebrating 50 years of the Royal Shakespeare Company and a collection of original lithographs made in 1964 to mark Shakespeare’s quarto-centenary. The exhibition runs 20-25 Oct (free admission).

Bloomsbury Festival begins tonight with lanterns in Russell Square and hundreds of family friendly activities over the weekend (free).

Saturday: Dashwoodstock 2011 is an all day music gig in Thamesmead showcasing South East London bands and performing talent, 2-11pm at the Dashwood Social Club, DA18 (free)

Apple Weekend comes to Camley Street Natural Park, Kings Cross, 11am-4pm (free).

Tate Britain hosts an afternoon of free talks, performances and 'social experiments' for Going Public, 1.30-5pm (free)

Sunday: Ealing Autumn Festival celebrates Hungarian National Day with family activities in the Victoria Hall & Liz Cantell Room at the Town Hall, 12.30-7.30pm (free).
