Stephen Walter's Incredible London Maps At Fenton House

You've probably seen this map before. It's just a fragment of Stephen Walter's The Island, a monumental hand-drawn chart of Greater London crammed with the artist's personal insights and observations. The work will be on show alongside other cartographic creations by Walter, at Fenton House, Hampstead from Wednesday. Up close, you can actually read all that tiny text, little more than a grey blur in our low-res image.

The 17th Century National Trust property is hidden away in the winding back streets of Hampstead. It's worth a visit in its own right, but this mouthwatering exhibition makes a trip up the hill almost mandatory.

The show coincides with the (subjectively named) Affordable Art Fair, which visits Battersea Park (20-23 October) and Hampstead Heath (27-30 October). Visitors to the fair will get a 2-for-1 deal on entrance to Fenton House.

Stephen Walter, The Island : London Series runs at Fenton House from 5-30 October. Entrance is £6.50 (adult), £3 (child) with various deals available (see website). The exhibition is organised by TAG Fine Arts.
