Olympic Stadium Athletics Track Is Finished

Lord Coe, top athletes and kids from local Newham school West Ham Church Primary were the first to run on the completed Olympic athletics track yesterday.

The children were present as they will ideally be one of the groups to benefit from the Olympic legacy when the Stadium passes to new owners and is transformed into "a venue for sport, athletics, community and cultural events". Retaining the athletics track was part of West Ham's joint bid with Newham but there are still doubts as to whether it will survive once the Premiership football club and its fans move in. Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur are still persisting with their legal case against the decision to award the stadium to West Ham at all.

Monday was also the day the million feet's worth of Olympic media centre went to market. The Olympic Legacy Company need to find someone to take on the huge Hackney Wick press and broadcast centre post-Games. There might be visions of an east London Tech-hub abounding, but also kicking about are spectres of massive white elephants.
