Things To Do In London At The Weekend: 5-7 August

All weekend

  • Field Day and the Apple Cart bring the buzz of a music festival and the spirit of the countryside to Victoria Park on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
  • Children get their own festival in Regent's Park with Lollibop - family tickets are available (but it's not cheap).
  • Triathlon has its Olympic test event in Hyde Park and it's free to spectate on Saturday and Sunday - whether from a grandstand seat or lining the course. Spectator info here.
  • The spirit of Southend on Sea pervades the Southbank with many beach themed events to match the urban beach and the string of interesting beach huts lining Jubilee Walkway.
  • Camden Fringe hits its first weekend with free shows at St Pancras International and stacks of comedy, sketch, theatre and drama shows across the Borough. Tickets from £5.
  • Hot August Fringe at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern is also well into its stride with cabaret, subversive performance and hilarious hi-jinx. Go early and buy a ticket for a performance and they'll let you stay all night.
  • And there's free theatre at More London's Scoop with performances of 'Around the World in 80 Days' for all the family at 6pm and Brecht's 'The Mother' at 8pm.

Friday:

Saturday:

  • Help clean up the River Lee from 10am.
  • David Bowie fans: tonight is yours. Go on a free guided David Bowie walking tour from 4pm (meet Trinity Arms, SW9).then dress up for the Feeling Gloomy David Bowie special at Islington Academy (£4.50 adv, £6 on the door before 12).

Sunday:

  • Borough Market has Sunday opening for a special 'Raw and Unpeeled' event between 11am-4pm
  • Hackney One Carnival in Clissold Park N16 promises a colourful procession through the streets from midday and family fun in the park including the London Wildlife Trust's big green picnic between 1-6pm.
  • Brixton Splash is a community festival in SW9 with sound systems, local music talent, arts, crafts, workshops and food across Atlantic Road, Coldharbour Lane, Electric Avenue and the Windrush Square and Peace Gardens from noon till 7pm.
