Preview: Film4 FrightFest

For cult film fans of a certain prediliction, the annual Film4 FrightFest is always a date marked carefully on the calendar. Now in its 12th year, this annual celebration of twisted genre movies returns to Leicester Square for five days of horror, fantasy, and ludicrously bloody gore.

This year's festival features a huge amount of premieres, including the UK premiere of cult death-fest Final Destination 5, the European premiere of dark anthology The Theatre Bizarre, and the world premiere of Dartmoor-set A Night In The Woods. There's also a short film showcase, a 'quiz from hell' featuring Andy Nyman (fresh from his blinding West End run of Ghost Stories), and an interview with horror director Larry Fessenden.

Naturally, with film titles like Rabies, A Horrible Place to Die and Inbred, this is not a programme for all the family.  There's a dedicated group of horror fans, largely men with beards, who return year after year for their morbid cinematic fix. As a result, the full weekend ticket has long sold out, but there are still some day tickets remaining, and individual film tickets are also available. If it's your tipple, you're unlikely to find a better selection of horror films this side of an Arizona drive-in. Just don't go alone...

Film4 FrightFest runs 25-29 August 2011 at the Empire Leicester Square. Check website for full details and booking.
