Olympic Spectator Journey Planner Launched

This is a news post for a very specific type of Londonist reader. Firstly, you must have scored some Olympic tickets. Secondly, you must be ridiculously organised and not a little anal about being prepared because a journey planner for Olympic spectators has been released by LOCOG.

We imagined we'd been lucky enough to bag tickets for the opening day of the Canoe Sprint and tested the planner, looking to get to Eton Dorney from the Londonist Towers Haringey outpost for the morning of 6 August 2012.

The results are really quite impressive. The planner gives the route in great detail, even stating walking times between lines at tube stations and totting it all up to take 3 hours and 39 minutes with a combination of walking, bus, tube and rail. Of course, timing will be everything and additional travel time has been allowed for "airport-style security at your venue and unforeseen delays on the transport network". But the footnote also suggests travellers "may wish to allow for additional time in your journey plan". (i.e. Don't take any chances, who knows how the tube will cope and you really, really don't want to miss this once in a lifetime event.)

It is the first time such a comprehensive travel tool has been put together specifically for an Olympiad, and unprecedented that you can book your travel from anywhere in the UK so far in advance. Just remember that your tickets come with a Games Travelcard included, which allows free travel across London zones 1-9. Check the Games Travelcard map.
