London International Animation Festival @ Barbican Centre

The London International Animation Festival returns for its eighth year this week. 250 films, most of them British premieres, can be seen at the Barbican Centre and the Horse Hospital from 26 August till 4 September.

The series includes both the serious and the whimsical, and features live events with animators and film makers as well as workshops for those interested in having a go.

Highlights include the gala opening night, a family screening event, the best of New York and Poland, and animation in music videos. We can heartily recommend the British Showcase on 1 September, which features the darkly comic Get Well Soon/Sorry to Hear... shorts and an animation inspired by James Watt's workshop at the Science Museum. The Bizarre evening also sounds like it's worth a punt.

Here's a London-themed short from Daniela Negrin to get you in the mood.
