John Burningham’s Travel Posters Coming to London Transport Museum

These beautiful posters were commissioned by London Transport in 1960. The artist was John Burningham, who would later go on to write and illustrate many children’s books.

A new exhibition featuring more than 20 of his posters will go on show at London Transport Museum from 9 September until 1 December. A book signing, conversation with the artist and half-term family storytelling workshop will accompany the show. The Museum has also launched a photo competition to coincide. Take a snap of ‘children’s London’, add it to this Flickr pool, and you could see your work displayed alongside Burningham’s posters.

Access to the exhibition is included in the museum’s standard ticket prices.

If they were commissioned in the 60s, it was very prescient of him to foresee Canary Wharf… (first poster)!!
