Bikes get the run of major roads in Central London this Sunday as the Mayor encourages everyone to get cycling with his Sky Ride.

If you’ve no steed of your own, pick up a sturdy Cycle Hire Bike and join the car free circuit past Big Ben and Westminster Abbey, into St James Park, down the Mall, into Trafalgar Square, along Embankment, past the Tower and back again.

Group rides into town take off from all parts of the capital and are free to join. There will be a family zone at Horseguards Parade and lots of cycling related activities and information plus rest and picnic areas in St James Park.

The roads will be car-free between 9.30am-4pm on Sunday 4 September. It’s free to register and take part.

Last year it was jam packed and you were actually unable to cycle due to numbers on the road so this year to incorporate its rise in popularity the circuit has been shortened. Wouldn’t you want more space? For the past 3 years have been on Freewheel/ Skyride and I have enjoyed it but last year was too busy and this year looks to be worse. If only I had the foresight to see when the busier periods would be.
