Londonist asks that most pressing of daily concerns: where to go on your lunch break.
Since opening a few months ago, Fleet Street eatery Coco di Mama has been offering “fresh food, Italian style” at a brisk pace to a seemingly never ending queue of hungry morning and afternoon patrons. “Home made” sauces (as in made fresh daily in their downstairs kitchen), al bronzo pasta (slowly drawn through bronze dies to create tiny ridges for sauces to cling to) and an especially efficient (yet nonetheless friendly) front of store experience have added up to a successful business model for providing City workers with a tasty opportunity to dispose of their income.
Londonist reckons Coco is as good as any nearby fast food joints for parting with one's lunchtime quid. And luckily with an “under a fiver” approach to pricing, a filling meal here doesn't have to cost too much. Sauces are good; the portobello mushroom sauce (rough-cut portobello and chestnut mushrooms in a light porcini sauce) is especially moreish. The pasta's nothing to complain about. Juices, smoothies, salads et al are enjoyably uncomplicated. And the coffee's fine too. Still hungry? Drawing upon the recipe of one of its employees' mothers, Coco serves up a properly yummy tiramisu that's definitely worth a try. Nothing terribly revolutionary going on here – just good food at a decent price when you're in a rush.
