Event Preview: Lewisham People's Day

It's Lewisham's annual big party this Saturday. Head to Mountsfield Park for a free afternoon of music, performance and hanging out with your neighbours.

Take afternoon tea or get a taste of what to expect from a visit to Blackheath Halls in the Yellow Area; shop at the craft market in the Red Area or find out what there is for young people to do in the borough; get sporty in the Blue Zone with the 2012 area and try out some cycles. The Green Area has a playbus and Circus Stars for kids.

Each area has its own dedicated stage with various styles of music and local bands to soundtrack the day – in fact, reports suggest 1,000 performers will appear across the eight stages.

There are always queues for People's Day, even when it rains, so get there early. Everything starts at 12pm and runs until 8pm – there's a full programme in this PDF.

People's Day is Saturday 9 July, 12-8pm. Entrances via George Lane, Brownhill Road and Carswell Road.
