Draw And Map London With The Big Draw

The City of London Festival continues to impress. In cahoots with The Big Draw, a series of events on Thursday to Sunday afternoons this week will get Londoners sketching their city in creative ways.

The highlight will see illustrator Joanna Walsh leading an effort to create a giant patchwork map of London. Walsh recently published the excellent London Walks! book under the name Badaude. Just like our hand-drawn maps initiative, the artist is now looking for contributions from members of the public. Whether you're a talented artist or a complete novice at map-making, she wants your handiwork. Simply email your map to badaude@aol.com by the end of 7 July, to be considered. Joanna will then assemble entries into a monster representation of the city in front of the Aviva Tower on 8 July.

Other highlights of the four-day event include poetry and song with the hard-working John Hegley (Thur), walking and drawing with artist Josh Knowles (Thur, Sat), a drawing lesson with Jorge Martin (Fri, Sat), chalk up a van (Fri, Sat), create a flickbook (Sat, Sun), and much, much more.

All events take place between 12 and 5pm in and around St Helen's Bishopsgate and Aviva Square. While there, be sure to check out the new sculptures in the area.
