Westfield Eyes West Ham And White City

The shopping centre at the gateway to the Olympic Park is rumoured to be eyeing a cosier relationship than mere neighbour to the more-than-likely new occupants of the Olympic Stadium post 2012.

Westfield Stratford City – due to open in September this year – was an adviser to West Ham in its bid for the stadium and it is thought a sponsorship deal, including naming rights, could be on the cards for around £20m once the football club moves in.

Not letting it lie, however, Tottenham Hotspur, have today gone back to the High Court to contest the awarding of the stadium to West Ham and pursue their claim for a judicial review of the case.

The potential dominance of the Westfield brand in the Olympic east may well be counterbalanced by an increased presence in the former Olympic west as plans for expansion of Westfield at White City are revealed. Redevelopment of the site next to the complex could mean 1700 homes and a further 48,000 square metres of retail space. The plans go on display for public consultation in July.

Given this bullish spirit of expansionism, we can't help wondering if Television Centre will get sucked into the Westfield mix at some point.

Take a look at photos of Westfield Stratford City then and now.
