Friday: Stoke Newington Lit Fest starts today and runs over the weekend with most events £4 or less and nothing over a tenner.

Saturday: Explore the London Green Fair in Regents Park (and Sunday).

It's Wandle Valley Festival this weekend with walks, cycle rides, open doors, wildlife and river discovery events - all of which are FREE.

Observe the London Symphony Orchestra in rehearsal for their Sunday concert of Bernstein's Candide for just £4. Between 3-6pm, Barbican Hall.

Sunday:Roots and Shoots summer open day celebrates the heritage of Lambeth Walk at the My Old China Fun Day. Find out about edible Lambeth, join workshops, walks and storytelling. Enjoy the wild garden and buy plants. Admission is free and a cake and beverage are thrown in gratis too. 11am-5pm at Roots and Shoots, Walnut Tree Walk, Kennington, London SE11 6DN.

Monday: Are you a member of Tower Hamlets' Idea Store or Tower Hamlets' Library? If not, join now and you can enjoy films for a fiver on Mondays and Tuesdays at Rich Mix.

Tuesday: LSE's public lecture is about Preventing Financial Meltdowns. It's free to attend on a first come, first served basis and starts at 6.30pm in Sheikh Zayed Theatre, New Academic Building WC2. Can someone tell the Chancellor please?

Wednesday: Groove Asylum is a live funk and groove night, a 'must for dancers' at Made in Brasil, Inverness St, Camden NW1. 8pm, £4 in.

Thursday: SELFS explores Scientology with David Barrett, upstairs at the Old Kings Head, off Borough High Street, SE1. 8pm, £2.50 in.
