Images of the proposed makeover of Kings Reach Tower, a 1972 high rise near the South Bank, have been released.
The building, designed by former Londonist stalkee Richard Seifert, will be fitted out with completely new cladding (to disguise that oh-so passé concrete) and an additional six stories. Previously the home of magazine giant IPC, and known to fans of a certain UK comic book as Tharg's Spaceship, Kings Reach will be converted into a 177-unit apartment building, with retail units at the ground level.
The tranformation is part of a current trend in London architecture for fitting out concrete buildings, with their drab facades and taint of Seventies melancholia, with glossy fenestration; Guy's Hospital Tower is also awaiting reclad in a similar fashion.
