Live Music Preview: iTunes Festival @ The Roundhouse

The month-long monster that is the iTunes Festival seems to grow a little larger every year. And while it's still in its usual Camden home at The Roundhouse, this year the 31 free gigs in July seem to feature more big names than ever before.

Chief among them are Coldplay, who today announced their gig on 22 July.

Sadly, long gone are the days when simply applying for tickets pretty much guaranteed you'd get them. Competition is stiff − but hey, as every night is free, it would be nitpicking to moan too much.

Besides, if there's a band you really want to see, you can always turn up and join the standby queue on the night. (Get there early if you absolutely must see the act in question.)

The pick of acts this year include Foo Fighters, Friendly Fires, Duran Duran, Kasabian, Moby, the Manics, Seasick Steve and even Arctic Monkeys. There's a classical touch too, with acclaimed Chinese pianist Lang Lang appearing. He's the chap who recently put 50 pianos on stage at the Royal Festival Hall.

So, something for everyone − even Gwyneth Paltrow, who, in one of the more bizarre line-up choices, will apparently be discussing her new cookbook. Hmm.

The iTunes Festival runs throughout July at The Roundhouse. See the full line up and apply for tickets on the festival's website.
