The Canary Wharf Motorexpo opened this week, providing the perfect opportunity for petrolheads across the capital to check out some of their favourite cars.

A cavalcade of Jaguar E-Types travelling from central London to Canary Wharf kicked off the event in a suitably stylish manner, led by cyclists representing UK Youth, Motorexpo’s designated charity.

With over 250 vehicles on display, ranging from the Lotus Evora to Nissan’s 100% electric offering, the LEAF (Leading, Environmentally-friendly, Affordable, Family car), there’s something for everyone. If you want to get interactive, the RaceRoom allows visitors to express their inner racing driver on an F1 simulation game. We were monumentally hopeless and are quick to reassure Lewis and Jensen that their crowns remain unchallenged.

There’s enough 4x4s to satisfy an army of Kensingtonists and if you’ve never gone further off-road than bumping up a kerb in one, Land Rover are offering the chance to drive at alarming angles on their mini-off-road course.

Sports and vintage car enthusiasts are pretty well catered for too, with the Jaguar Through The Ages exhibition, the fabulous Morgan Aero and ClubGT’s Ferrari 360 Modena. The Lotus stand occupied us for quite a while; this year it’s got the impressive Evora S as well as the current F1 contender. Don’t forget to visit the gorgeous Ferrari 458 in Canada Square either.

This year, Motorexpo are featuring some of the latest electric and low-carbon cars in the Drive The Future exhibition. Tesla, Nissan, Lexus and Volvo are all showing off their environmentally-friendly cars, including (surprisingly) an electric Hummer from MEV which looks as though it would fit in the boot of one of its full-size cousins. This and the Tesla Roadster are available for a test drive.

Motorexpo is open daily between 10.00am and 6.00pm from Monday 6 to Saturday 11 June, and between 11.00am and 5.00pm on Sunday 12 June. Entry is free. Details on how to get there and information on the show are available at the Motorexpo website.

Weekend visitors with families will be treated to live music performances, an appearance from Titan the Robot and Lightning McQueen from Pixar’s Cars 2.
